I received an email from a very gifted pastor of a large church last week - I want to share it with those of you who are in church leadership and wonder if you're the only introverts out there:
As an introvert myself (often to some extreme ends) I'm not only interested in the content [of my book], I immediately identified with the title. I'm not sure I have ever thought of evangelicals as having a bias favoring extroverts, but I'm certainly open to that theory. I do know I've often felt anywhere from 'out of place' in church life, to extremely uncomfortable in many church situations because of my introversion. At one especially difficult point in ministry for me, I went to a psychiatrist, who suggested that I had agoraphobia. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one - though I generally found a perverse comfort in having a professional offer an explanation as to why I couldn't stand church pot lucks in large rooms.
